Ken Blazej comes to us from Dixmont, Maine. He discovered pickleball in 2014 when searching for a new sport after his volleyball group disbanded. There were only a handful of pickleball players in the Bangor area at that time, and only a rudimentary understanding of the rules and strategies. He enjoyed improving his, and fellow players skills and abilities and preparing for tournaments. Ken has competed in numerous local, regional and National tournaments since 2015. He has won many medals in Singles and with partners in Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles events. His highest level of achievement was a bronze in singles and a gold in men’s doubles at the 2019 USAPA National Championships held at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, California. Ken became a Professional Pickleball Registry (PPR) Certified Pickleball Coach in 2020. He enjoys assisting players at all skill levels from beginners to tournament players. “Pickleball is a great sport! It’s easy to learn, great for your health, fun, and social!” kb
Doug McCosh comes to us from Belgrade Lakes, Maine where he was introduced to Pickleball in 2020 and like many others became instantly addicted. Being retired, he was able to play recreationally several times a week at the Alfond Youth & Community Center where he was a member of the Pickleball Committee established to oversee the Pickleball activities there. Doug joined the Champions Fitness team soon after and started giving clinics in 2023. He became a Pickleball Coaching International (PCI) certified Pickleball coach in 2024 (with honors). He occasionally hosts Pickleball classes in Belgrade at the Center for All Seasons and has participated in tournaments across Maine and New Hampshire and enjoys the competition but also enjoys the fun, relaxed version of recreational play.
Certified Pickleball Coach/InstructorJim Hutchison joined our staff in 2024 as a certified (PPR) pickleball instructor and coordinator. Senior Games, North Atlantic Regional Tournament, South Atlantic Regional Tournament, and the NY City Open. With no racket sport background, Jim likes to use strategy and have a plan when playing his opponents. Prior to playing pickleball, Jim played wallyball at Champions for 30 years.
